Kanonkop Where The Big Guns Roar
Named after the "kop" on top of Simonsberg Mountains, this fourth generation family run farm has been part of the Cape's long wine history since 1973, the first year wines bearing the Kanonkop label were produced. The Brother's Krige, the current owners of Kanonkop, as well as the current winemakers make sure that the terroir of Kanonkop is obeyed.
After the 80's when every wine farm in South Africa was trying to be everything to everyone, Kanonkop realised that they would have to stick to what they did best and according to where they are situated, that would be Pinotage and Cabernet Sauvignon with a little Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The culmination of the farms efforts came in 2018 when Abrie Beeslaar's 2015 Kanonkop Paul Sauer got a perfect score from Tim Atkin, renowned British Wine Critic.
