Krug's Grande Cuvee series is the dream of one man, Joseph Krug, he wanted to craft the best champagne he could offer by using every single year, regardless of climactic variations. Since 1843, the House of Krug has honoured his vision with each new edition of Krug Grande Cuvee.
This year marks the 168th edition, which is based around the 2012 vintage, one of Champagne's greatest this century. It comprises of 198 different wines spanning 11 years, with the oldest being Pinot Noir picked in 1996 from the grand cru village of Verzeney.
The champagne has a golden colour with fine, vivacious bubbles. There are aromas of blooming flowers, ripe, dried and citrus fruits as well as marzipan and gingerbread. On the palate there are flavours of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, jellied and citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey.
