Make Your Own Spiced Rum At Home
Now that we are going into the holidays, the cooler weather in the northern hemisphere and gift-giving vibes demand we break out our DIY kits. According to Ed Hamilton, not only does every island that produces sugar cane have its own spiced rum recipe as part of it's cultural fabric, every family on every island has their own version and it's deeply personal.
Here in South Africa, rum has always been part of a sickeningly sweet "cocktail" that originates beyond the "boerewors curtain", one that appears without fail at braais (barbecues) and leave a trail of hangovers in it's wake.
