National Pinotage and Biltong Day
On the 14th November 2020, South Africa invites the world to celebrate it's very own grape, Pinotage. For a little history, Pinotage was developed by Prof. Abraham Izak Perold in 1925 during his tenure as the first Professor of Viticulture. Professor Perold successfully crossed Pinot Noir and Hermitage (Cinsault) to produce the country's first indigenous grape variety.
This year the Pinotage and Biltong Festival will be held at the Perdeberg Winery between Durbanville and Paarl. Lanzerac Wine Estate was the first wine farm to produce the Pinotage commercially and use "Pinotage" on their labels in 1959. The day is an opportunity to explore this proudly South African grape by tasting Lanzerac Estate's three Pinotage wines along with specially paired biltong.
